Bronze, the classic sculpting material, the archaic casting technique and the history of the Bronze Age fascinate me. What work steps does the casting require? What is the bronze alloy made of? Where did our ancestors get the raw materials copper and tin from?
In a sabbatical year, I went on a historical journey to world cultural heritage sites of mankind, to one of the oldest mines in Germany
Bronze Age pile dwellings on Lake Constance and visited mineral stores, sites and museums in my immediate vicinity. Visits to 3 bronze foundries inspired me to research how people lived in the Bronze Age.
A trip to Tanum, on the west coast of Sweden, gave me mystical insights into 3000 year old imagery of our Nordic ancestors. The motifs of the rock carvings can be read as elementary scenes for social encounters, mobility, nature and culture, which can be seen as symbols of both a prehistoric time and the present.
